SELECTION PROCESS
SELECTION PROCESS
The Atlantic Renewal Institute follows a selective, merit-based process designed to identify emerging scholars and professionals with intellectual rigor, independent judgment, and the potential to contribute meaningfully to ARI’s work.
IDENTIFICATION AND NOMINATION
Prospective Fellows may be identified through academic, professional, and intellectual networks or nominated by individuals familiar with their work. ARI may also open limited calls for expressions of interest when appropriate.
INITIAL SUBMISSION
Selected candidates are invited to submit a curriculum vitae, a brief statement of interest, and either a writing sample or a proposal for an original paper related to ARI’s areas of research. Submissions are assessed for relevance, clarity, analytical strength, originality, and evidence-based reasoning.
PAPER DEVELOPMENT
Candidates who advance beyond the initial review are invited to develop an original paper in accordance with ARI’s editorial standards. The paper should make a substantive contribution to the candidate’s field and demonstrate the ability to translate rigorous analysis into clear and relevant ideas.
INDEPENDENT REVIEW
Each paper is evaluated by at least two qualified reviewers. Whenever practicable, the review is conducted anonymously. Reviewers assess the work according to a common set of criteria, including intellectual rigor, originality, quality of evidence, clarity of argument, and relevance to ARI’s work. A third review may be requested when the initial evaluations differ substantially.
FINAL DELIBERATION
The Executive Director and Research Director consider the submitted work, the independent evaluations, and the candidate’s broader potential to contribute to the Institute. Any actual or potential conflict of interest must be disclosed before a final decision is made.
NOTIFICATION AND PUBLICATION
Candidates are formally notified of the outcome. Admission as a Fellow does not automatically guarantee publication. Papers may be considered separately for publication following editorial review and with the author’s express approval.
This process is intended not only to select strong candidates, but also to introduce future Fellows to ARI’s culture of disciplined inquiry, intellectual independence, and constructive engagement.
